Who are the teams? There are 28 men's teams spanning five continents competing for Gold. You've probably heard of powerhouses such as Canada, England, and of course USA, but did you know that Utica and Oneida County has a second "home team" in the event? The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy, the originators of the sport, compete as a country? They're pretty good too, earning silver at the last edition of this event in 2019.
There are 10 teams competing in the first-ever Women's World Box Lacrosse Championship. The event culminates with both the women's and men's Gold Medal games on September 29th.
Who are the players?Nearly all of the players on the top three men's teams (Canada, Haudenosaunee and USA) are pro stars that you can see compete every winter in the National Lacrosse League. The rest of the men's and women's teams have a smattering of pros, amateurs, former NCAA athletes, and international stars. Most are average Joes and Janes, they are teachers, students, firefighters, accountants, fathers and mothers who have put their lives on hold for two weeks to compete for their country on the world's biggest stage.
