The land for the future site of the AUD was dedicated on April 15th, 1957, with a project budget of 3.7 million dollars (which would equal about 47 million dollars today). Gehron & Seltzer Architects of New York City were chosen to headline the design of the facility. The team included Frank Delle Cese, a local architect, and Lev Zetlin, a structural engineer.
